Travel to Cambodia

A trip to Cambodia, the ‘Land of Smiles”

Countries of Southeast Asia, Cambodia is bordered by Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. Cambodia is a friendly country called the “Land of Smiles” because the Khmer always have a smile despite the horrors they have lived under the regime and Polpot Khmer Rouge. Cambodia is mainly known for its temples of Angkor, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. A whole area around the temple town of Siem Reap. They were built between the ninth and fifteenth centuries.

The Tonle Sap, considered the largest lake in Asia, is located in the heart of the country and connects the two main towns of Cambodia: Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. It boasts beautiful walks to canoe on the river in the middle of the floating villages

Phnom Penh, the Pearl of the South-East Asia

Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia is situated at the confluence of rivers Mekong, Tonle Sap and Bassac. Once considered the most pleasant cities built by the French in Indochina, Phnom Penh has managed to retain part of its charm despite the violence of the recent history of Cambodia. The city is a huge green space, dotted with traditional Cambodian villas surrounded by gardens. Wide tree-lined avenues, very moving incite stroll. The silhouette of the Palais Royal is a delight for the eyes. Within the walls: the Silver Pagoda, known for its 5 000 tiles of money from one kilogram each, the Emerald Buddha (the truth of the crystal) and its golden Buddha some 90 kg.

The National Museum of Phom Penh, an elegant red building of 20 years, includes a series of Khmer sculptures, each one more beautiful than the others.

A fifteen kilometers from downtown, to the southwest lie the graves of Choeung Ek-a moving testimony of genocide Khmer where 8 000 skulls are piled in a pyramid of horror in the rough.

The temples of Angkor

The area of the temples of Angkor is the most beautiful of Cambodia. Angkor is the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire, which flourished from the ninth to the fifteenth century. It has dozens and dozens of temples an incredible rich ornamentation. We must spend at least three days in Siem Reap to see the main temples. The most beautiful are not too far from each other. They are grouped into two circuits created by the Angkor Conservation: The short tour of 15 km and the Grand Circuit of 24 km. Most notable are Angkor Wat, the Bayon with its towers visgaes, Ta Phrom and if you do see a few. But do not miss Bantey Srei, the temple of Preah Khan and women, completely overgrown with vegetation!

The excursion on the Tonle Sap to discover, on board a boat floating village surprisingly similar to a maze of boats.

Chiang Mai Thailand

Chiang Mai Thailand

The jungle view from the top of trees, in a journey of some two kilometers, hooked to a harness and passing from tree to tree, high in the canopy, by a system of platforms, cables and suspension bridges to twenty meters above ground, is what provides “The Flight of the Gibbon,” the first of its kind in Asia.

1-GOLF ADVENTURE IN A canopy MAE KAMPONG

It takes us first in the green campaign Mae Kampong, a pretty village 45 kilometers from Chiang Mai, nestled around the majestic forests of a national park.
The village is dedicated to the cultivation of tea and coffee and a growing eco-tourism, with the opportunity to stay in the region. After a small cup of local coffee, visitors are transported into the forest at the departure station. Harnessed, these budding Tarzan can run up to the first platform and fly from tree to tree, supported by a steel cable. Thrills guaranteed!

The ride lasts two hours and ends with a suspension bridge between two majestic trees and a rappelling descent to win the good land. “Cool, a little sports,” said Stéphane, the guinea pig of Gavroche, very stolid. “Grosse scared at first, but then it’s excellent,” smiled a young woman. The day continues with a luncheon at the village and a short walk to a waterfall. Little time, unfortunately, to stroll in the village; why there should be overnighting.
Our comment: bravo for the site, safety, supervision and originality of this new tour.A discourage older however not very sporting!

2-ADVENTURE CAMPS

More soft and davantange for families to enjoy nature while practicing a sport, the Maetang River Camp, Maetang and Padeng Camp in Chiang Dao are two new options that also offers Active Thailand in Chiang Mai. Operating for now almost exclusively for groups of students from international schools, both camps can make available to families or groups of friends (minimum ten people), a very basic accommodation in tents and all kinds of ‘Activities at the request hiking, trekking, mountain biking, rafting, canoeing, visit elephant camps around caves, but also views the discovery of drugs in the vicinity of ethnic villages perched on the mountain.
Our comment: The camps are under development. It clear before all activities that interest you without forgetting meals and drinks because there is no bar on site!

3-RAFTING / down the river PAI

For an expedition in white water rafting, with a night in a jungle camp, the descent of the Pai River, two days, one night, from Pai, proposed by Thai Adventure Rafting Under the supervision of Guy Goria, a pioneer rafting last twenty years, is still a must. The Khong and Pai rivers pass through a wildlife sanctuary otherwise inaccessible. There are already large sections of fast the first day, before reaching the camp in the jungle. The night happens in bamboo huts with mosquito nets and sleeping bags. Toilets and showers are available. The second day: stop the hot springs. Consequently, again, about fifteen Rapids 50 to 300m long, class 4, then gorges Pai. Lunch is taken on board a small waterfall before landing at the Office of forests in the valley dema Hong Son, and reach the city of the same name. It is possible to be dropped at his hotel or airport for a return on ChiangMai.
Our comment: There should be a good physical condition and a spirit of adventure to embark on this expedition rude.

Phuket, Thailand’s premier beach destination, boasts a wide range of accommodation options. However, for today’s discerning traveler, Phuket boutique hotels can offer a truly stunning combination of luxury and style, international amenities and local flavor, unobtrusive yet impeccable service.

Standing out among Phuket boutique hotels is the Amanpuri, voted no.1 in beach features in Zagat’s 2007 surveys and offering an unparalleled blend of elegance, minimalism and luxury. The name Amanpuri means “Place of Peace” in Sanskrit and this resort was the first of the now world-famous Aman family of luxury hotels. Situated in a secluded coconut grove next to a beach bathed in the amazingly blue waters of the Andaman Sea, the Amanpuri is a collection of Thai-style pavilions and villas constructed with natural materials and serviced by some of the best staff that can be found in Asia.

Another stunning example of Phuket boutique hotels is the Indigo Pearl, created by famous Bensley Design Studios and featuring a fusion of lush tropical greenery, modern sculpture and industrial art. The pavilions feature private pools and a truly surreal design without lacking any of today’s modern comforts. Fine dining and sea sports are also on offer in what is one of Asia’s most polished resort experiences.

A member of the Small Luxury Hotel of the World collection, the Twinpalms Phuket is an amazing array of villas around a huge freeform swimming pool that gives the resort a Venetian look, with a decidedly Asian flavor. Featuring everything from cozy rooms to duplex residences with a pool on the roof, the Twinpalms Phuket offers something for everyone.

All in all, travelers to Phuket can no doubt enjoy a good selection of boutique hotels in different price ranges and with a variety of modern Asian designs.
