Thailand General Information Posted by Mr. Michael Comglas on 03 June 2006 |
Thailand is by far the most popular destination for tourists in South East Asia. Every year, over six million travelers, business people and holiday makers pass through her borders; some to stay in the Land of Smiles for the whole duration of their trip, other to use Thailand as an access point to other South East Asian destinations such as Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam , Laos or Myanmar. Even withstanding the immense devastation caused by the Tsunami that devastated the region in 2004, millions of tourists flock into Thailand, enthralled by her wonderful countryside, beautiful beaches, delicious cuisine and rich culture.
Thailand is home to around sixty million people; a large percentage of those still earn their living in rural areas through farming and cultivating stock. But tourism has gradually become a vital part of Thailand’s economic growth. Many areas near the ocean, who just a few brief years ago were sleepy fishing villages, have given way to the unstoppable development of progress, with huge hotels and resorts springing up at an amazing rate. Thailand offers everything for a holiday-maker and can cater to any budget or taste.
