The Singapore National Museum, open in 1849 the Raffles Library and museum, originally housed in the library of the Singapore Institution (later the Raffles Institution). The location of the museum on Stamford road and built according to designs by Sir Henry McCallum, opened October 12, 1887. From1906 to1934 various renovations. In 1960 separated from the library and renamed The National Museum. In the 1980s, under the management of the National Heritage Board, further renovations took place and it was renamed The institution meanwhile named The National Museum again has been closed due to renovations since April 2003 and is being greatly expanded. Not only will The National Museum then offer a location for exhibitions, but also venues for festivals and other events, fostering new creative possibilities in culture and dealing with cultural heritage. Of particular note are the Museum’s 20 dioramas, three-dimensional reconstructions of historical scenes and events tracing Singapore’s development from a sleepy fishing village to the present day metropolis. Another exhibit shows the world of a wealthy Straits Chinese family at the turn of the century, complete with elaborate Peranakan furnishings and finery. The Children’s Discovery Gallery is another compelling attraction, with interactive exhibits designed to explain Singapore’s cultural heritage, visual and performing arts. Allow a half day to enjoy the attractions of the museum. Guided tours in English and Japanese for small groups of 10-12 are available. The Singapore National Museum open on Monday at 12.00 pm - 6.00 pm, Tuesday to Sunday at 9.00am.-6.00 pm. And Friday at 9.00 am.-9.00pm (Special night interactive tour, Tales of the Night, at 7 pm.and 7.30pm, each tour lasts an hour) And you can get there by MRT to Dhoby Ghaut (NS24) and walk along Stamford road. Located at 93 Stamford road, the Singapore History Museum can be easily reached by bus or MRT. Visitors can either alight at Dhoby Ghaut or City Hall MRT station, or take any of the following buses: 7, 14, 16, 36, 64, 65, 77, 97, 103, 106, 111, 124, 131, 139, 166, 167, 171, 174, 190, and 501.
