How the British surrendered to the Japanese 1942: The Singapore Battle Box Posted by Mr.Ronald Kerwitz on 10 October 2006 German Nationality |
The Battle Box is not your normal "museum". During World War II it used to be the biggest and latest underground command center of the British Malaya Command Headquarters. In 1942 the British surrendered to the Japanese in Singapore and he Battle Box is in place to remember this event in history. The Battle Box comprises 22 rooms, is completely bomb proof and has the ability to recycle its air supply. To make your visit to the Battle Box as realistic as possible, it has been equipped with audiovisual equipment to create effects and high quality animations in order to let you relive the 15th of February 1942, the day that Singapore surrendered. The highlights of the 1 hour tour include air raid sirens and bomb blasts that blast through the rooms of the Battle Box. Also, you will be able to see bunkers in their original untouched state. Another highlight are the 24 life-sized officers to be found here that were modeled by people from the Madam Tussaud's Wax Museum in London. You can get to the Battle Box by taking the MRT to the Dhoby Ghaut Station (NS24) and then walk towards Fort Canning Road. Battle Box Information: The Battle Box is open each day from 10:00 until 18:00. The last entry to the Battle Box is 17:00. Adults have to pay 8 Singapore dollars to get in and children under 12 and senior citizens pay 5. The tour takes about 1 hour.
