Singapore main religions are Islam, Buddhism, Hindu and Christianity. Posted by Mr.Michael Comglas on 03 June 2006 American Nationality |
The diversity of the Singaporean population has led to the many religions existing within Singapore. There main religions are Islam, Buddhism, Hindu and Christianity. There are also minor religions such as Judaism and Shinto. Around 50% of Singaporeans practise a Buddhist of Taoist faith. This is, of course, due to the large number of Chinese people in the country. These immigrants brought Buddhism with them from China; with all its values, colours, sights and smells. Although some Chinese have become Christian, a much larger percentage has continued the traditions of their ancestors. Most Malays are Muslim and there are countless Mosques dotted around the landscape of Singapore. The veiled females and calls to pray are all a part of modern Singapore. And it is the Indian population that constitute the majority of Hindus in the country. A further explanation of each major religion and the rough percentage of the population who practise are below.
