Extreme Activities in Rotorua, New Zealand

New Zealand is a world leader in stupid things to do whilst on holiday and nowhere else is this more true than in Rotorua. This beautiful geothermal wonderland offers a massive range of activities some sedate some not so sedate for the adventurous, stupid, young at heart or all three. But for me, the more stupid the more fun, so for a great deal of fun try some of the array of activities below:

Bungy – Well what is New Zealand without the option of throwing yourself of a bridge, tower or crane and just like Queenstown, Rotorua is happy to provide this service - at a cost and with a bungy cord attached to your ankles.

Parachuting – If jumping of a crane doesn’t do it for you then get a little higher and throw yourself out of a plane, tandem dives can be organized for the ultimate rush as you freefall at 200 kmph over the incredible landscape of Rotorua.

Body Flying – If you like the idea of free fall but are not so keen on the heights then this is a great alternative. The only one of its type in the southern hemisphere an aircraft V12 diesel engine will create a wind of 180 Kmph, forcing you up to 4m in to the air and let you feel what it is to fly.

Off Road/4WD Adventures – Drive a 4 wheel drive through a challenging course or let the experts do it for you whilst you enjoy the ride. Or take your own tour through the forestry and landscape of Rotorua.

Helicopter/Plane Flights – Take a scenic flight over this beautiful area and give yourself a vantage point that few others will be lucky enough to see.

Canoeing & Kayaking – These options will allow you to explore the beauty of the Rotorua lakes either in a group or on your own.

Riverjet – This is an extremely fast motor boat that will allow you to be propelled in a 450 horsepower race boat, down the river at terrifying speeds of up to 100km an hour, whilst you slice past cliffs and rocks.

Rafting – From calm and cautious Grade 2’s to a terrifying Grade 5, you can shoot down the world’s highest commercially rafted waterfall, adrenalin enthused fun.

Water Sledging – Descend through the white water rapids but without the hassle of a raft. This innovative way to experience the rapids uses a purpose built river sledge to hurtle down the river on your own.

Mountain Biking – Jump on your bike and hurtle down the hills along steep and difficult paths or take a serene ride through the forests, up to you.

Zorb – This sport requires you to roll down hill inside a giant inflatable ball. This can be done with or without water and will allow you to run, tumble, slip or roll to your hearts content.

Having filled your daily quota of stupid things to do whilst on holiday I recommend experiencing geothermal bliss in a natural mineral pool or pampering yourself at a spa, or you can always go out to one of the bars and relate your near death experience to anyone you meet, beware the locals have most probably heard it all before.
