Top 10 Shopping on the Streets of Phuket Island!

Phuket has many shopping streets where you can buy just about anything from clothes, souvenirs, all kinds of antique and electrical goods. Generally, you can obtain a final figure ten-to-thirty percent lower than the original asking price. Much depends upon your skills and the shopkeeper's mood. With patience, and a broad smile, you will not only get a better price, you will also come to recognize shopping in Phuket as an art-form! Here is a selection of the many shopping streets visitors can enjoy.

As well Phuket has a number of department Stores; these are usually located in major shopping plazas or mega malls dotted around the city. Phuket's top shoppers tend to frequent the following:

Central Festival Phuket (By Pass Road)
Imported brand name labels, jewellery, top local fashion designers, gourmet shops, trendy restaurants, imported household furnishings, and supermarket.

The Plaza Surin (Sri-soonthorn Road)
The Plaza Surin is a creation of a high-profile designer. He has combined his specialties in Architecture from Western to Eastern to create a tropical hideaway that include many essential boutiques. By glance you will notice his attention of invent “A Unique Shopping Destination” the plaza was created to give the boutique merchant a place to showcase products and services of interest to high-end community.

Besides goods from major shopping plazas or mega-malls, Phuket also offers unique souvenirs available at souvenir shops

Pearls & Jewelry: Thailand has become a new leader in the world of gems and jewelry. There are many of galleries in Phuket, there are many kind of pearls here: variety of shape, variety of colors. The quality of pearls having value and importance the rounder pearls are more valued and the silver-pink pearls is the most popular and expensive.

Pewterware: you can find many of pewterware (made of 97% pure tin and 3% antimony and copper, and is leading free) in Phuket cause of Thailand is one of the best of maker handmade pewterware of the world.

Lacquerware: A specialty of the north, this craft involves coating split bamboo or wood with lacquer, then paint on it, designs usually gold on black lacquer or yellow and green on a red brown background. Look out for lacquerware bowls, boxes, trays and other items for decoration or for souvenirs.

Rattanware: The product that made from rattan-wood. (south-east Asian climbing plant) There are many items: bowls, boxes, chopstick etc.

Neilloware: Practiced in the South of Thailand Nielloware is the craft of decorating gold and silver objects with delicate etch designs filled with a metal ware. Trays, boxes, vases and other items are some of Nielloware the best buys as souvenirs.

Cotton & Batik: Thai cottons have become increasingly popular and good deal. Particularly in Phuket is original batiks crafted (the flowers, fish or birds that brightly decorate a skirt, shirt or wall hanging) there are several studios in Phuket.

Silk: A unique style of Thai silk is Mat Mee, a tie-dye silk traditional to the North-east. Probably silk is the most famous of Thai handicrafts, silk is available in a variety of colors, patterns and plies. It sold by the yard, or as ready-made clothing or souvenir items.

Ceramics: Both traditional and contemporary styles of pottery are available for take as a souvenir. The best known are Celadons from the Sukothai area (sea-green color), and the orient central provinces' colorful Benjarong (five color) porcelain.

Antiques: Phuket has become an international showcase for antiques from around Southeast Asia (Thai, Chinese, Burmese and Khmer). There is an export ban on certain pieces, particularly Buddha images. Other pieces may require an export license, but any reputable seller will be advice for any necessary documents.
