Phuket: The best attractions and hotel recommendations on Thailand's largest island

Posted by Mr.Jonas Oppenhoff on 02 August 2007
German Nationality

Phuket is a large island with many faces. First one has to say that it is a beautiful place to be with white sand beaches and fantastic natural features. As it is big you can have whatever you want: A holiday at a secluded beach with relaxing ambiance such as at Cape Panwa. Or you can have an entertainment holiday and party the night away each day. For this, Patong beach would be the right area to stay at. It all depends on you. See our Phuket hotel recommendations below of which a big part can be instantly confirmed:

Patong Beach Lodge from $22
Karon Princess from $36
Metropole Phuket from $37
Horizon Patong Beach Resort and Spa from $40
Kata Palm Resort from $44
Karona Resort and Spa from $44 (Instant Conformation)
Andaman Beach Suites from $51 (Instant Conformation)
Ban Thai Beach Resort from $65 (Instant Conformation)
Absolute Seapearl Beach Resort from $77 (Instant Conformation)
Avantika Boutique from $119 (Instant Conformation)

Being the biggest island in the country, there is plenty to do in Phuket. Here are the mst popular attractions that people like to see:

Thai Boxing
No trip to Thailand is complete without seeing one of the national sports: Thai Boxing, or how the locals would say: Muay Thai. Saphan Hin stadium in Phuket City has regular matches of this martial art sport which is gaining more and more popularity all over the world. Nevertheless, there is no better place to see the real thing than in Thailand. Patong Beach also has some matches. Just look out for the pick-up trucks driving around and announcing matches.

Zoo, Aquarium and Snake Shows
The Phuket Zoo is located on Soi Palai and has many exotic animals to watch. Also very interesting is the Phuket Aquarium which even has a "shark tunnel" to enjoy. It is situated in Cape Panwa, the secluded and beautiful area in Phuket. Also, the snake shows are very exciting.

Phuket FantaSea show
A strange but highly entertaining mixture of Las Vegas show, Thai culture, acrobats, pyro show and elephants on stage. This show is unique in Thailand, actually the world, so don't miss it.

Old Phuket Town
The old part of Phuket city has many great restaurants, classical architecture and other surprises that you wouldn't expect. Definitely worth a visit.

National Parks / Waterfalls
Khao Praew Thaew National Park and Sirinath National Park both offer beautiful waterfalls and pristine untouched natural features. Relax in this peaceful ambiance.

Wat Chalong Temple
This is the most important temple on the island and tens of thousands of people visit it each year. It is decorated beautifully with thousands of little glass pieces that throw reflections everywhere.

Simon Cabaret Show
This is the most famous cabaret show on Phuket. Fetaured are a musical show with the most beautiful "ladyboys" in Phuket. It is hard to see the difference here!

Of course one of the main attractions is the island itself. Nowhere do you have as many viewpoints, fantastic beaches and untouched nature as here while the infrastructure is superb and life is as modern as it gets.
