The beautiful country of Peru, the home of the Incas, is steeped in history and for any visitor there can be no more interesting, rewarding and exciting destination.

Located in South America and neighboring the countries of Chile, Bolivia, Brazil, Columbia and Ecuador, Peru is a true crossroads of culture. Its fascinating delights spread beyond the ancient wonder of Machu Picchu, recently voted as one of the new wonders of the world, and the mystery of the Nazca lines, that excite modern UFO conspiracists, to include varieties of man made and natural marvels that will surprise and amaze even the most widely traveled visitor.

The capital Lima is a bustling city where the rich culture meets to work and play. With a sub-tropical climate it has a relaxing atmosphere where an umbrella is never needed and boasts a fine range of colonial-era buildings, often used as museums to contain the cultural riches of Peru.

South of Lima is the home of the ancient and famous destination of Cusco the most visited of Peru’s cities and the gateway to the sacred valley of the Incas, the location of the jaw dropping ruin of Machu Picchu. The city of Pisco gives its name to the delightful Peruvian brandy, the main ingredient for the refreshing and intoxicating Pisco sour. In Arequipa at the foot of the snow capped volcano of El Misti and sitting at 2335 m above sea level, it is not just the beautiful Spanish colonial-era architecture that will take your breath away.

North of Lima there are no fewer cultural delights. Chiclayo is the commercial center of northern Peru and the countries fourth largest city, its strategic significance as the meeting point of the jungle, highlands and the coast, make it both a crossroads of culture and commerce. Huaraz is located at 3100 m above sea level in central Peru and is a favorite destination for hikers and climbers particularly from Europe and the USA.

Trujillo was the first city in Peru to proclaim its independence from Spain and contains the ruins of the beautiful pre-Inca city of Chan-Chan. Dotted around the city are the remains of a number of remarkable and very ancient pre-Columbian temples and cities.

Peru is the destination that people talk about most when recounting their memorable and enjoyable travel experiences. With such a wide range of sights and activities you have to visit for yourself to see why Peru truly is a crossroads of culture.
