Niagara Falls: Visit the most impressive water falls in the world Posted by Mr.David Miller on 30 April 2007 German Nationality |
Niagara Falls, a city situated at the South of Ontario province in Canada, used to be a small military post to become one of the best travel destinations in Canada. Niagara Falls borders with the USA and the town is partly on the American side, too. The name Niagara is renowned worldwide. The most famous attraction of Niagara Falls are the water falls. The biggest ones are the "Canadian Falls" with a height of 54 meters (177 feet) and the American Falls with a height of 56 meters (184 feet). There is also the Canadian Horseshoe Falls that are 52 meters high and drop into the so-called "maid of the mist pool". Here you can take a ride in one of the Maid-of-the-Mist boats which is one of the more popular attractions. Riding in the boats, you will definitely get wet so make sure you have your photo camera properly secured. The most visited and biggest of the falls are the Niagara Falls themselves. The falls can be reached easily by the provided shuttle buses. It is best to visit the Niagara Falls from the Canadian side (you can also access them from the American side) to get the best view. Coming from the American side though you can get closer to the water. Watching these impressive water falls is an unforgettable experience, it is absolutely breath-taking. Even though, Niagara Falls can be visited throughout the year, it can get quite cold from the November until March. June, July and August are the warmer months where temperatures normally rise to around 25 degrees. In any case, bring a rain coat or dry clothing. Depending on the weather, you can get wet at the falls as a little bit of wind will spread a lot of mist from the water falls. Another popular spot to visit is at the Cliffton Hill area, which starts at the top of Cliffton Hill and then winds down a steep hill until the end of the water falls. Here you will find many shops, restaurants, accommodations, museums and much more. You get the idea. The area is long and big so bring some energy, especially considering that you have to walk up the hill. Niagara Falls also has a shopping mall called Niagara Square and another area is called Optimist Park which features a Walmart and Zehrs. Niagara falls also features another big attraction that is in a class of its own. The Bird Kingdom Niagara Falls is the largest indoor free flying aviary in the world. Modeled after a rain forest, you walk through a jungle like environment and be able to watch a large amount of bird species in all kinds of colors and shapes. Programs are available in which one can participate. You can hold some of the birds, feed them and do other things you cannot do elsewhere. The main hall of the Bird Kingdom is a truly amazing sight. A waterfall, around 200 birds, palm trees, lakes and streams, create an authentic rain forest atmosphere.
