Malacanang Palace is located on the banks of the Pasig River, the Palace bilt in the late 18th century by a Spanish aristocrat. It was used as the residence of the Spanish Governor-Generals from 1863. Last used as house of the American Governors and Philippines Presidents. After the People Power Revolution in 1986, the palace was opened to the public. In 2001 the President Arroyo cleared the old Administration Building, then occupied by the Presidential Press Office to make way for the Presidential Museum. The area occupied by the Presidential Museum would revert back to the private quarters of the Presidential family. President Arroyo begins using the presidential desk used by her father and by all presidents from Quezon to Marcos. President Arroyo moves her office in the year 2002 from the Music Room to the Study Room (Rizal Room) where all presidents from 1937-1986 had held office. The Malacanan museum is reorganized and a systematic inventory of the Palace's contents is begun. The first lady of Philippines is Hilaria del Rosario Aguinaldo she was the first of General Emilio Aguinaldo, the first President of the Philippines. Although the title first lady is not used and did not refer, to the wife of President at the time, she is today considered the first lady of the Philippines. Now open to the public, Malacanang’s colonial Spanish architecture and interior decor are worth a look, especially the three chandeliers in thereception hall, the beautiful hardwoods used for the grand staircase, the portraits of former presidents, and the exquisite music room. Tour includes also a visit to the 18th century Casa Manila, fronting the San Agustin Church inside the walled city for a taste of Philippine Heritage. The Malacanang Palace open daily on Monday – Friday at 9.00 am. – 3.00 pm.
