Getting to Krabi is fairly easy and there is the option of driving, by boat or flying.
Flying to Krabi Krabi has its own international airport with many daily flights direct from Bangkok with Nok air, One Two Go, Air Asia (flying out of Suvarnabhumi airport) and Thai air (offering flights from Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi airports). Internationally Krabi airport has regular flights from
Singapore with Tiger air and a number of charter flights from
Europe. A new company called Krabi airlines is currently establishing themselves and is planning to offer flights from
Oslo and
Munich before expanding its operations to
Australia, the
US and
Japan.
Driving To Krabi There are buses that travel from Bangkok to Krabi, but most of the ‘VIP’ buses do not go direct, instead you have to change at
Surat Thani and get another bus after a 1-2 hours wait. Government buses do get direct from the southern bus terminal near Pinklao.
Driving from Bangkok to Krabi is possible and the easiest way is by highway #4 this trip is approximately 950 Kms.
Driving from Phuket takes about 2-3 hours, following route #402 and then #4, the distance is about 185 kms.
Krabi by Boat There are no direct boats from Phuket to Krabi, all go via the
Phi Phi islands but you can hire a boat. There are two boats a day between Phuket and Krabi. These may be cancelled in the low season if the weather is too rough.
Krabi by Rail There is no direct rail link to Krabi. If going by rail it is best to go Bangkok to Surat Thani and get a bus over to Krabi.
Getting to Krabi is one thing but when you are there you may be surprised by the cost of transportation which is normally much higher than
Bangkok or
Phuket. The best thing to do is hire a car and you can get reasonable rates at the airport or your
Krabi will be able to organize this for you, this is also the best way to see this beautiful area.
