| Kos is a fantastic Greek island only 4km off the coast of Turkey. It has a very rich history due to its geographical position and has been controlled by the Persian, Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Ottaman Empires at different times. More recently it was taken by Germany during the Second World War and then became a protectorate of Britain until it was ceded to Greece in 1947.
