Getting to Koh Chang, Thailand Posted by Mr.Michael Comglas on 13 July 2006 American Nationality |
Leaving from the Eastern Bus Terminal in Bangkok (next to Ekkmai BTS Skytrain station) travellers by bus can reach the Trat Bus Terminal in approximately five and a half hours, with buses departing between 6am and midnight. Sawngthaew taxis are then available to make the short 15km trip to the ferry ports of either Laem Ngop, Ao Thammachat or Ko Chang Centrepoint (operated by Ko Chang Resort). Ferry services to Ko Chang departing from Laem Ngop leave every hour from 8am to 5pm and the forty-five minute trip will take you to Ao Sapparot. The boat fare is 50B per person. Ferries depart from Ko Chang Centrepoint three or four times a day between 7am and 4pm. The trip takes forty-five minutes and the dare is 80B per person. A vehicle ferry leaves from Ao Thammachat four times daily and takes half an hour. For a vehicle and driver the fare is 400B plus 30B per passenger or pedestrian. (Due to Ko Chang's uneven terrain and poor road conditions it is recommended that 4WD vehicles are used on the island). Once you have arrive at Ao Sapparot, local sawngthaews can take you to either Hat Sai Khao, Hat Khlong Phrao or Hat Kai Bae. The fare is usually 30B per person but it is recommended that you agree on a fare before setting off. Departure times and fees are subject to change. More information can be found by contacting the TAT Trat office. Tel: 0-3959-7255, 0-3959-7259-60 Fax: 0-3959-7255.
