The look & feel of Kanchanaburi & the River Kwai Posted by Mr. Ioan Voicu on 19 June 2006

Many people have heard of the River Kwai and especially the bridge that was built over it by American & English prisoners of war more than 60 years ago. Few have heard, however, about the beauty of the surrounding region in Thailand's Kanchanaburi province.
There are some impressive natural features in this area, such as the 7-step Erawan waterfall and there's nothing like a dip in its fresh, cold natural pool of crystal-clear water after an upward trek through the jungle.
Nearby there is also a tiger reservation, which is a great place to go with your family and is sure to provide many fun moments. Rafting on the river is also available for those that want to be in an exciting environment, while elephant treks will give you a real feel of the surrounding countryside.
Finally, at dusk, you can take an interesting ride on the "Death Railway", manually carved into the mountain during the Second World War and view the famous bridge over the River Kwai, as well as take in some relaxing vistas while having dinner at one of the many riverside restaurants.
