When visiting Hong Kong if you are staying in central be sure to take the Star Ferry to Kowloon in the late afternoon enyoy a drink at the intercontinental hotel lounge and watch the lights go on across victoria harbor in Central. Take a local bus to Stanley market the repulse bay side of the island is less populate and has lots of green spaces and beaches. Pick up some portuguese history in china with a side trip to Macao using the ferry service with departures every fifteen minutes for a trip of less than an hour. Courtesy shuttles will take you to the casino hotels and from their you can take off on a walking tour. Visit the new Macao Tower. There are numerous Portuguese restaraunts, museums. a intersting buddhist temple near the maritime museum. The leal senado square is a living museum of colonial architecture when you are tired of sight seeing grab a taxi (very inexpensive) and head back to the ferry terminal. No need to change money Hong Kong Dollars are accepted everywhere and some merchants give you a 3% discount if using HKD rather than the local pataca.
