Temple Street in Hong Kong - Visit the famous Night Bazaar Posted by Mr.Carlo Rositzki on 02 October 2006 German Nationality |
Temple Street is one of the most famous areas in Hong Kong among locals as well as tourists. It is also often referred to as "Man Street". Why? Because Temple Street is home to a big night market and the goods sold there are almost all for men. Many small street stalls are loacted here next to each other in between Yau Ma Tei and Jordan Road. Bets time to go to Temple Street if you want to see the night market is around 20:00 when the street lights light up and the street is becoming more lively. The goods on offer come in many varieties. You can get neckties, jeans, mobile phones, watches, T-Shirts and many other things. The Temple Street night bazaar approximately opens until 23:00 when the shops slowly start closing again. Besides the many stalls selling their goods theer are also the typical Asian business that scatter arounf the area. This inclused for example fortune-tellers, soothsayers and hand palm readers. What else do we have at Temple Street? Well. it is also known for its red light activities. Walking down Temple Street you will notice many women with not so much clothing on and flirting with the male passers-by. It is a normal sight at Temple Street and many men come here just to see this. Finally, ther Jade Market is also not too far from the Temple Street night market and a very popular attraction of Hong Kong. You can buy all things Jade here and this could be the ideal gift to bring back home. You will find Jade goods in all price ranges, from ridicously cheap to ridicously expensive. Although Temple Street was until recently known for the place to get very good bargains this is changing slowly as the market gained in popularity. There are still some good deals to catch though. A good starting point might be the shops behind the first line of stalls that area bit more hidden away in the streets. It will be easier to bargain here than at the stalls at the main road. If you want to go to Temple Street, the best way is to take the MTR and exit at either Jordan or Yau Ma Tei stations.
