Airport Express
The airport Express is the best way to get to and from the Chek Lap Kok airport. It is an efficient train service that takes 23 minutes, running from Kowloon and the Central district. There are pleanty of baggage handlers if you have many bags. After arriving you can get a taxis, connect to the MTR or take one of the free shuttle buses connecting to major hotels in Kowloon and Central.

The cost of the train is HK $60-$80 single or $110 to $180 return.

Airport Express Tourist Octopus 3-Day Hong Kong Transport Pass: This gives you 3 days of unlimited MTR travel and one ride on the airport express and one ride on the Airpot express. This costs HK$220. You get two for HK$300 dollars. When you return the card you get HK$50 returned as a deposit for the card. If you do not use it for the compete 3 days the credit stays valid for 3 years, so you can keep the card for your next trip of you want.

This card does require you to use the MTR a fair bit to make it worth while. If you will be doing a lot of travel, especially to the New territories or to Lantau island it may be worth it.

The Airbus
There are several airbus routes that run too and from the airport. They are slower than the train, but are cheaper.
Routes A11 & A112 go to the island and A21 goes to kowloon. These cost $40, $45and $33 per trip.

Another option is to take the ordinary bus S1 to Tung Chung and connect to the MTR for a cheaper ride into the city. The bus will cost $3.50 and the MTR will be $17 or $23 depending if you go to kowloon or Hong Kong.

I is worth noting that tehre are “E” buses and “a” buses. The E buses are really for airport workers and will take longer, with a less direct route than the “A” buses. They are also cheaper.

There is also the free shuttle buses running for hotel guests. It has been known for people to take these and when you arrive at your destination hotel decide that it is not to your tast and move on.

Look at the airport website for a full listing of buses running there and back. Visit (http://www.hongkongairport.com/eng/aguide/bus.html).

Taking a Taxi
A taxi from the airport to town will cst about $300 dollars. If there is a few of you this is cheaper than taking the airport express train service, and will have the convienience of dropping you at your hotel door. Generally taxis are safe and will always follow the meter. Sometimes they will take a longer route to boost the price.

When going to Hong Kong Island there is less traffic and usually quicker to go by the “Western Harbour Crossing”. This route will be more expensive though. Going to downtown Kowloon from the Airport is not too congested.

The fares and based on the meter that takes into account distance and time. There may be a surcharge for luggage and when going through the tunnel. At the taxi stand there is a chart giving the aproximate fare to most destinations.

This can also be viewed online at http://www.info.gov.hk/td/airport/taxiairport.pdf

Taxis from the Airport to downtown Kowloon do not suffer from much traffic congestion. If you are going to Hong Kong Island, tell the taxi driver to use "Western Harbour Crossing" to avoid congestion, but it will attract a surcharge.
