Chile Country Overview: Chile Main Areas and Attractions

Chile is one of the best destinations in South America for traveling. It is considered by many to be the best nature travel destination on the whole continent. This has many reasons. Chile lets you experience many natural features like volcanoes (the Parinacota Volcano at Lake Chungara), there are a lot of excellent parks in Chile and the Andes are in the East of Chile. Also, not to forget is the shape of Chile: It is a very narrow but very long country, stretching 4200 km from North to South. This makes it the longest country in the world! While its is also one of the narrowest as the width never exceeds 240 km.

It has been the country through which famous revolutionist Che Guevara traveled on a motorcycle when he was in his young ages. Today, many people are trying to do the same and follow his route. In no other country can you drive as long as in Chile.
The Andes, Chile's other main natural feature are a mountain wall that seems to be impassable. There are 50 different volcanic peaks in the Andes, an astonishing number. Following the Andes up north one will reach the hostile Atacama desert, following the Andes down South you will reach one of the most beautiful areas whereas the central valley hold Santiago, the countries biggest and most populous city.

One of the most famous products coming from Chile is without a doubt its wine which has won many customers around the world in recent years. Most of the Chilenean vine comes from the central region which is home to a 500 mile river valley, occupied by vine yards in the North.

There are also 2 islands in the Pacific that belong to Chile. One is the Juan Fernandez Islands and the other is the Easter Island. The latter is probably the most famous one and both islands are National Parks in Chile. Easter Island is 3700 km away from Chile's coastline which is quite far away.

Being one of continent's most prosperous countries and the traditional friendliness of the people there makes Chile a fantastic travel destination with many top class tourist spots. The cities in Chile have a European feel to them, in past times especially Germans and Swiss descendants have lived in Chile (and can still be found there).

The capital, Santiago is a cosmopolitan city that has everything to offer you would expect from a big capital city. Santiago offers excellent shopping options, a vibrant nightlife scene, beautiful colonial architecture and a very good transportation network. Chile Hotels, especially in Santiago are world class and you will find accommodation for all budgets.
As you can imagine, the countryside is at least as fascinating as the cities. Like I mentioned before, Chile is the best destination for adventure and eco tourists for a god reason. A popular trip is up north, to the borders to Peru and Bolivia where one can explore the mountains in all their glory.

One thing that not many people know about is that you can go skiing in Chile. Not far from Santiago you will actually find a very good skiing area that can compete even with offerings in Europe or the USA.
Another interesting trip is going to the Maipa valley, South of Santiago which produces Chile's best wines. You can visit numerous wineries there and also take part in a wine tasting, a great and fun experience.

Further South, as mentioned before you will reach the probably most beautiful areas of Chile. Most active volcanoes can be found here in addition to many lakes (one of them is the 4th largest in South America). This also made it very popular amongst fishers. It is an excellent area to go fishing.
