Beijing’s National Stadium Posted by Mr.Luke Palmer on 02 January 2008 British Nationality |
On July 13th the IOC elected Beijing to be the host for the 2008 Olympic Games. This fantastic event will be showcased all over China with lots of different events in lots of different locations and will see hundreds of Athletes competing to make their Olympic dreams come true. Everyone has their favorite event and I admit to liking a lot of them but my favorite are the track and field events. These are going to be held at the brand new National Stadium in Beijing, nicknamed the bird’s nest. The stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies and will have a capacity of around 91 thousand. The nest is created by the roof which is interwoven steel to create a single surface and weighs over 45 thousand tones, because of the grid like pattern that is created the stadium has the appearance of interwoven twigs it has been given the nickname of the bird’s nest. The total land surface is over 250 thousand sq m. It was designed by Herzog & DeMeuron and China Architecture Design Institute The stadium is located at the Olympic Green in Chaoyang district and there are many popular hotels in that area, such as: Hilton Beijing (5 star) Beijing Landmark Towers Hotel (4 star) Twenty First Century Hotel (3 star) The Olympics looks like it will be a fantastic event, due to start on August the 8th it will run until August the 24th. The opening and closing ceremonies are sure to be absolutely amazing and the whole event should be fantastic. If you have a chance to go to Beijing and see for yourself the athletes Olympic dreams coming true then grab it, you will definitely not regret it.
