20 domestic flights made a test-run of Bangkok's new Suvarnabhumi Airport Posted by Mr.Ioan Voicu on 02 August 2006 Romanian Nationality |
The 29th of July was an auspicious occassion for Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok's new gateway for travelers from all over the world. On this day more than 20 flights operated by Thailand's six main airlines took off and landed to an from destinations all over the country. With the international test flights due on September 1st and the actual opening date of September 28 rapidly approaching, this was a major test of the airport's readiness for the huge influx of tourist traffic that is expected in the winter high season. After going through it, I can honestly say that things are looking good...there were no issues with the air traffic control for any of the flights, many duty-free shops and F&B concessions have opened, and the check-in area was sparkling clean and ready for action. Areas that still need work are the huge premium lounge and spa spaces, which have not yet been fitted, the parking areas, the airline offices and some of the waiting spaces gate-side...but otherwise, things seem to be ready for action.
