The easiest way to travel around Bangkok's congested streets is to take either the Skytrain or the MRTA Subway. Both offer a reliable service around central Bangkok and used together, provide a fast, cheap way to see many places of interest around the city. Most of people in Bangkok are already familiar with the BTS Skytrain but MRT Subway as it is still new for them.

Bangkok is the first city in Thailand that built an underground transport system. The Bangkok MRT subway officially opened in July 2004. The subway crosses the lines of the BTS skytrain on three spots which are Mo Chit, Asok and Sala Daeng. It otherwise covers areas that are not reached by the skytrain. Further lines and extensions are planned and they even intend to extend the subway to the new airport that will open sometimes in the far future.

The MRT subway offers 2 routes running from Hua Lamphong to Bang Sue with 16 stations along the way. It connects with the Skytrain at Silom and Chatuchak (Mo Chit station). The passengers can interchange the station there. The entry fare starts from 13 baht and then a distance-related charge of 2 Baht is added per station you travel, but the total price is capped at 12 stations.

MRT subway has prepared the parking areas and other facilities for the Bangkok MRT subway passengers including two Park & Ride Buildings and seven subway stations which is Two Park and Ride Buildings. The building is located at Lat Phrao station, can accommodate 2,400 cars. The passengers can walk along the underground walkway from the building to Lat Phrao Station. The other park and ride building is located at the Thailand Cultural Centre Station between Soi Ratchadaphisek 6 and 8 can accommodate 180 cars. This park and ride building also has shops, stalls and other conveniences for MRT subway passengers.

If owning a car does not make your life any easier in this big chaotic city, the Bangkok MRT subway is a good alternative way to consider so do the others.
