Posted by Miss.Pa-paavarin Thanakankun on 25 September 2006
Thai Nationality

Lumpini Stadium Bangkok is the most popular boxing arena in Thailand. Lumpini Stadium was first opened for business in December 1956 with the aim of promoting Thai boxing both in Thailand and abroadd. The stadium is run by the Royal Thai Army specifically the Army Welfare Department and receipts from the fights go to support various departments in Army. General Prapas Jarusatien was the driving force behind the establishment of a second national – standard stadium

The cost of tickets at that time ranged from 90 to 1,200 Baht for special fights. Any visitor to Lumpini will notice the frantic betting around the ring – every stadium applies for a special gambling license, which enables this activity.

Lumpini Stadium Bangkok, located to the east of Lumpini Park on Rama IV Road, is Bangkok's second major boxing stadium. The nearest BTS to Lumpini Stadium is Sala Daeng station and the nearest MRT Lumpini. From both it will cost around 50 Baht to get a taxi down Rama IV Road past the Night Bazaar to the stadium. And the following buses will get you there is bus number 115. If you want to get in side the ticket are priced from 500 Baht to 1,500 Baht depending on the fight, the fighters, and whether you sit ringside. Fight takes place Tuesdays and Fridays from 18.30, Saturday afternoons 17.00-20.00, and Saturday nights from 20.30.
