My favorite Thai restaurant Posted by Mr.Mark Rebouk on 16 November 2007 British Nationality |
Bangkok has loads of restaurants and whilst the food is always good, I tend to feel a little overwhelmed. But there is one place that I am always happy to eat at, and that is a restaurant next to the Chao Phraya river, it can be hard to find but really is Bangkoks hidden delight. I have never had a bad meal here and anybody that I have gone with has always enjoyed their food. The restaurant is called Kin Lom Chom SaPan which is impossible to remember, but the location is easier as it is on a road called Samsen Soi 3 or samsen soi sam. This is the busy road that also passes the end of the Khao Sahn Road. The restaurant is always busy and they normally have a band and singer. The restaurant is mostly open air and has a beautiful view of the King Rama 8th bridge and the river. What I love about this restaurant is the food, whilst the view is nice and the staff are friendly and helpful, nothing compares to the food. They have a massive menu but what first stand out is a sign at the entrance that says no MSG, this is a rarity in Thailand and for me indicates how much care goes into their food. At the entrance you will also walk past huge tanks full of fish, crabs and various types of seafood. The fish always takes extremely fresh and whatever you choose is fantastic, but for me the steamed sea bass and lemon is a winner. I also love the green curry which is rarely a dish I have because it is a little boring when you have come many times to Thailand but here it is spectacular. The northern style chicken wings rival the best I have had in Chiang Mai and the southern curry is so spicy that even people from Krabi or Nakhon Si Thammarat would be impressed. The pineapple rice is also something else it comes served in half a pineapple, I have even been with people that did not like pineapple, who could not resist this dish. To find this hidden delight, take a taxi to samsen soi sam and drive down the road which gets quite tight towards the end, there will be a very sharp left turn at the end but you can carry straight on and slightly to the right and suddenly you will find yourself in a huge car park. The restaurant is in front of you. One meal here and you will agree that this is one of the best meals you will have had in Bangkok possibly even Thailand.
