That's how we go! Posted by Ms.Ruethairath Aimsamang on 17 August 2006 Thai Nationality |
Bangkok is known as a capital city of Thailand with 12 million populations. Since there are a huge number of people struggling in this land of smile, it is normal to see the cars get stuck in the intersection for hours even if the government tries incredibly hard to solve this issue. A lot of policies have been used, some policies do not seem to help Bangkok a better place, but some do for instance the transportation. Bus is the most convenient option for people in Bangkok. There are four types of public buses with different ranges of fare which are Ordinary bus, 7 baht and Blue strip 8 baht whole route, The air-con bus, Euro bus and Micro bus. The price depends on the distance. The cheapest one is Minibus; cost only 6.50 baht for whole route. Boat is another choice for busy people. The boat stations are not everywhere in Bangkok unlike bus as there a few routes. There are 2 biggest routes for the boat in Bangkok which are in Chao Phraya River and Banglamphu (near Khao Sarn Road), price depending on the distance. Let’s move to the BTS Skytrain. There are 2 lines for the BTS. First is Mochit line. This line is 17 kilometres n lengh and another one is National Stadium runs to Taksin Bridge or Silom line, 6.5 km length. The fares range from 10 baht to 40 baht based on the distance traveled. Bangkok Metro (MRT) is the newest alternative to travel. The price starts from 14 baht to 36 baht. The route runs from Hua Lamphong to Bang Sue with 16 stations along the way. It connects with the Skytrain at Silom and Chatuchak. The passengers can interchange the station there. Taxi is always good when you are in a hurry. The minimum far is 35 baht of no more than 2 km, but sometimes taking a taxi doesn’t help much if the traffic is really jammed, so Motorcycle Taxi would be the hero on a white horse. This is the fastest Bangkok’s transportation. The price is not fixed, you can even bargain to get the cheapest price. Tuk-Tuk or what we Thai call Samlo is a three-wheeled taxi without a meter or air-con. Fares must be negotiated beforehand. They are normally a little cheaper than ordinary taxis for short trips. Tuk-Tuk can be found where there are lots of tourists for instance Siam or Khao Sarn Road.
