Bangkok : Fascinating city. Posted by Mr.Michael Comglas on 14 June 2006 American Nationality |
Getting round the Bangkok city is fairly easy as there are a variety of transportation options available to every traveler. You can use Bangkok’s modern and efficient BTS Skytrain, or there is always the option of taxi’s, river taxi’s, buses and even a Tuk-Tuk (a three wheel taxi) for short journeys. Buddhist monks, dressed in bright saffron robes, are a familiar sight in Bangkok, hardly surprising when the city boasts over 400 temples. One of the city’s most famous sights is the Emerald Buddha in Wat Phra Kaeo, a temple within the compound of the Grand Palace. Equally a visit to the Wat Pho temple to view the 46 meter long, gold plated, reclining Buddha is highly recommended. The stunning porcelain encrusted pagoda, known as the ‘Temple of Dawn’ on the banks of the Chao Phraya river, is one of the most famous landmarks in Bangkok. The temple rests on the banks of the Chao Phraya, opposite the Grand Palace. Bangkok’s mix of historical sites of interest and the more modern high-rise city centre are redolent of a city that is continuously changing and adapting whilst retaining a timeless quality. There is a wealth of experiences to be savored in this cosmopolitan metropolis. An inspiring and evocative mix of medieval Thai culture and the vibrant thrum of a modern city makes Bangkok an incredibly unique and ‘must visit’ tourist destination. There is always something new to discover in the City of Angels, including an extensive range of museums and galleries, most notably the National Museum. Whether you are a new to Bangkok or a returning visitor you will you will be inspired by this fascinating city.
